Compression
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001285
The process in an internal combustion engine where the piston moves upward in the cylinder, reducing the volume of the trapped air-fuel mixture. This action increases the pressure and temperature of the mixture, preparing it for ignition by the spark plug. Compression is the second stroke in the four-stroke Otto cycle, following the intake stroke and preceding the power stroke.
