Cylinder
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001531
The central working part of a reciprocating engine, consisting of a cylindrical chamber within the engine block where a piston travels. Combustion of the air-fuel mixture occurs within this chamber, forcing the piston down to generate power. The inner surface is precision-honed to form a seal with the piston rings, and its volume, combined with the combustion chamber volume, determines the engine's displacement.
