Opposed cylinder

An engine configuration where cylinders are arranged in two banks directly opposite each other, with pistons moving horizontally. This design, often called a 'boxer' engine, provides a low center of gravity and inherent balance, reducing vibrations. Subaru and Porsche are well-known manufacturers that frequently use opposed-cylinder engines in their vehicles.
