Side valve

An engine design where the intake and exhaust valves are located in the engine block adjacent to the cylinders, rather than in the cylinder head. This configuration, also known as an L-head or flathead engine, results in a simpler cylinder head design. Side valve engines were common in early automotive and industrial applications due to their manufacturing simplicity.
