Boxer engine
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000726
An internal combustion engine with cylinders arranged on two opposite sides of a central crankshaft, where opposing pistons move towards and away from each other in a synchronized motion. This horizontal layout gives the engine a flat, low profile, contributing to a lower vehicle center of gravity and improved handling. The design's inherent primary balance reduces vibration without the need for balance shafts, a feature characteristic of Porsche and Subaru vehicles.
