The state of equilibrium of a vessel, maintained by the correct distribution of weight and buoyancy. Proper balance is necessary for stability, preventing excessive rolling or listing. A ship's stability is calculated based on its center of gravity and center of buoyancy, with loading plans adjusted to keep these parameters within safe operational limits.
