Overbore
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004061
To machine an engine's cylinders to a slightly larger diameter to correct for wear, scoring, or other damage. This process restores a true, round surface for the piston rings to seal against, requiring the installation of new, oversized pistons and rings. The amount of material removed is minimal, often measured in thousandths of an inch or millimeters, and is limited by the thickness of the cylinder walls.
