Blow-by

The leakage of combustion gases from the engine's combustion chamber past the piston rings and into the crankcase. This phenomenon reduces engine efficiency and can contaminate the engine oil, leading to increased wear. A positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system is designed to manage blow-by gases.
