Blow-by
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000386
The leakage of combustion gases past the piston rings into the crankcase of an internal combustion engine, or the leakage of process gas past seals in a compressor. This reduces engine efficiency and can contaminate lubricating oil. In compressors, blow-by can lead to reduced capacity and increased energy consumption.
