Blowdown valve (BDV)

A valve designed for the rapid depressurization of a process vessel or pipeline by venting its contents to a flare system or atmospheric vent. The blowdown valve (BDV) is a key component of an emergency shutdown system, automatically opening upon detection of an unsafe condition like overpressure or fire. These are typically fast-acting, high-capacity valves, such as ball or gate valves, with powerful actuators.
