Over the top

A method of applying agricultural chemicals, such as herbicides or fertilizers, directly over the canopy of a growing crop. This application technique is used when the chemical is selective and will not harm the crop, or when the crop is tolerant to the specific treatment. It contrasts with directed applications that target only weeds or the soil surface.
