Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005413

A fast-growing, dense crop planted to suppress weeds by outcompeting them for light, water, and nutrients. These crops establish quickly and form a thick canopy that shades out undesirable vegetation, reducing the need for herbicides or manual weeding. Common examples include buckwheat, rye, and sudangrass, which are often tilled into the soil as green manure after serving their purpose.
