The portion of a rock stratum or mineral vein that is exposed at the Earth's surface, or is covered only by superficial soil or debris. Also known as an outcrop, it provides direct evidence of the underlying geology and is a primary target for prospecting and initial exploration activities. The line of the crop is the trace of the vein or bed on the surface.
