Fan shooting

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001366

An early refraction technique in which receivers are laid out in a fan of azimuths around a shot, or a fan of shots is fired to one receiver line, to find high-velocity bodies such as salt domes. Rays passing through the body arrive earlier than those that miss it, so a travel-time advance on certain azimuths marks its position. It was used in the 1920s and 1930s along the United States Gulf Coast.
