Radial refraction
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003032
A borehole seismic technique in which a detector deep in a well records waves from sources at the surface that are placed at different azimuths around the wellhead, along lines radiating from it. The first-arrival times from the radial shots show how the velocity structure around the well changes with azimuth, as when a salt body lies to one side. It has largely been replaced by salt-proximity vertical seismic profiling and 3D surface seismic.
