Thermal gradient
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003805
The rate at which temperature increases with depth in the Earth's crust. This gradient influences the design and performance of drilling fluids, as downhole temperatures can significantly affect fluid properties. A typical geothermal gradient in sedimentary basins is about 1.5 to 2.0 degrees Fahrenheit per 100 feet of depth.
