Fracture gradient
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001569
The pressure gradient at which a rock formation will hydraulically fracture, creating or extending cracks. Exceeding this gradient during drilling can lead to lost circulation of drilling fluid into the formation. It is expressed in units of pressure per unit depth, such as psi per foot.
