Shale oil
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003352
A type of unconventional oil produced from oil shale, which is a fine-grained sedimentary rock containing kerogen. The kerogen is converted into liquid hydrocarbons through pyrolysis, either by heating the rock in situ or after mining. This differs from tight oil, which is conventional crude oil trapped within low-permeability shale formations.
