Shale gas
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003351
Natural gas trapped within fine-grained sedimentary rocks with low permeability, requiring hydraulic fracturing to enable economic production. The gas is stored within the pore spaces of the shale matrix and adsorbed onto organic matter within the rock. Production wells for shale gas are often drilled horizontally to maximize contact with the reservoir.
