Structural shale

Shale that is part of the rock matrix and contributes to the bulk volume of the formation, rather than existing as discrete laminae or dispersed particles. This type of shale affects the porosity and permeability of the reservoir rock. It is often identified through petrographic analysis and log interpretation.
