Gas shale

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001630

A fine-grained sedimentary rock, rich in organic matter, that serves as both the source rock and reservoir for natural gas. The gas is stored within the rock's pore spaces, adsorbed onto organic material, and within natural fractures. Production from gas shale typically requires hydraulic fracturing to create sufficient permeability for economic recovery.
