Interstitial gas
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002018
Natural gas held as a free phase within the pores between the grains of a reservoir rock, as opposed to gas adsorbed on the surfaces of grains or organic matter. In unconventional reservoirs such as shale, gas in place is estimated by adding the interstitial gas to the adsorbed gas. Measuring both quantities on core samples gives the total gas content.
