Clay-bound water
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000692
Water that is tightly adsorbed to the surfaces of clay minerals within a rock's pore system, held by strong electrostatic forces. This water is immobile and does not contribute to fluid flow or hydrocarbon production. It significantly impacts the electrical conductivity of shaly formations and is a key component of bound fluid.
