Wet-clay porosity
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004154
The pore volume within clay minerals that is occupied by water, which is bound to the clay surfaces and does not contribute to fluid flow. This water is part of the irreducible water saturation and is not producible. It is typically accounted for when calculating effective porosity for reservoir characterization.
