Irreducible water
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002042
The volume of water held within the pore spaces of a rock by capillary forces that cannot be displaced by hydrocarbons, even under high pressure. This water is typically adsorbed to grain surfaces or trapped in very small pores. It is expressed as a percentage of pore volume and is a key parameter in calculating hydrocarbon saturation.
