Dispersed clay
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001117
Clay minerals distributed throughout the pore space of a sedimentary rock, rather than being concentrated in distinct layers or as structural grains. This form of clay coats the surfaces of sand grains and can partially fill the pores, reducing the rock's effective porosity and permeability. The presence of dispersed clay increases the formation's conductivity, complicating the interpretation of resistivity logs for water saturation calculations.
