Dispersion
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001118
The phenomenon where the velocity of a wave depends on its frequency, causing different frequency components to travel at different speeds. In seismic exploration, surface waves (ground roll) exhibit dispersion, which can complicate data processing. It is also observed in electromagnetic wave propagation through certain media.
