Normal mode
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002566
A natural pattern of wave propagation along a fluid-filled borehole, found as a solution of the wave equation with the boundary conditions at the borehole wall, each with its own dispersion curve of velocity against frequency. The Stoneley, flexural and pseudo-Rayleigh waves are normal modes of the borehole. Which modes appear depends on the source type, the formation velocities and the frequency.
