Normal moveout
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002567
The time difference in a seismic reflection arrival between a zero-offset trace and an offset trace, caused by the increasing travel path length with distance from the source. This effect is more pronounced for shallow reflectors and diminishes with depth. Normal moveout correction is applied to seismic data to align reflection events for stacking.
