Normal-moveout correction

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002570

A seismic data processing step that adjusts the arrival times of reflection events on a common midpoint (CMP) gather to compensate for normal moveout. This correction aligns the reflection events horizontally, making them suitable for stacking. The accuracy of the NMO correction depends on the correct estimation of subsurface velocities, which are derived from velocity analysis.
