NMO
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002547
The change in reflection travel time due to the varying distance between a source and receiver for a flat, horizontal reflector, an effect known as Normal Moveout. This hyperbolic increase in two-way travel time with offset is corrected by applying a time shift to each trace in a common midpoint gather. The correction flattens the reflection event, aligning it at its zero-offset time, which is a prerequisite for stacking the data.
