Dip moveout
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001096
A prestack processing step that corrects for the dip dependence of normal moveout, so that reflections from dipping and flat interfaces stack with the same velocity and dipping events are not smeared. It is applied to data already corrected with a first-pass NMO velocity, and it moves each event toward the zero-offset position it would occupy in a zero-offset section. Without it, conflicting dips in a CMP gather cannot be stacked well by one velocity.
