Velocity analysis
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004018
The process of determining the speed at which seismic waves travel through different subsurface layers. This is achieved by analyzing the moveout, or change in reflection arrival times with increasing source-receiver distance, in common midpoint (CMP) gathers. The resulting velocity information is used to convert seismic data from time to depth and to stack the data for improved signal-to-noise ratio.
