Midpoint
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002362
The point on the surface or in the subsurface located halfway between a seismic source and a receiver. In common midpoint (CMP) data acquisition, multiple source-receiver pairs share the same midpoint, providing redundant coverage of a subsurface reflection point. This redundancy is used for stacking and noise reduction in seismic processing.
