Midoceanic ridge

An underwater mountain range formed by plate tectonics at a divergent boundary, where new oceanic crust is generated through volcanic activity. These ridges extend for thousands of kilometers across the ocean basins. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge is a prominent example, where seafloor spreading occurs at rates of a few centimeters per year.
