Dyke

A tabular body of igneous rock that cuts across the layering or fabric of the surrounding rock. Dykes form when magma intrudes into pre-existing fractures or weaknesses in the crust and then solidifies. They can range in thickness from a few centimeters to many meters and often occur in swarms.
