Dye penetrant inspection
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001221
A non-destructive testing method used to detect surface-breaking discontinuities, such as cracks, pores, and laps, in non-porous materials. A liquid penetrant is applied to the surface, allowed to dwell, and then removed, followed by the application of a developer that draws the penetrant out of any flaws, making them visible. This technique is widely used for inspecting welds, castings, and forged components in pipelines and pressure vessels.
