Magnetic particle inspection (MPI)
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002255
A non-destructive testing method used to detect surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials. A magnetic field is applied to the part, and fine magnetic particles are then spread over the surface; these particles accumulate at any flaws, making them visible. MPI is widely used for inspecting welds, castings, and forged components in pipelines, pressure vessels, and structural steel.
