Methylene blue dye
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002341
A cationic dye used in the methylene blue capacity (MBC) test to determine the cation exchange capacity of clays in drilling fluids. The dye adsorbs onto the negatively charged surfaces of clay particles, indicating the amount of reactive clay present in the mud. The MBC test results are expressed in milliequivalents per 100 grams of clay.
