Duster

An exploratory or development well that has failed to encounter commercially viable quantities of hydrocarbons. After drilling and evaluation through logging, testing, or core analysis, the well is determined to be non-productive and is subsequently plugged and abandoned. The term is synonymous with a dry hole, and its classification is a key input for geological and economic reassessments of a prospect or field.
