Wildcat
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004160
An exploration well drilled in an area where no oil or gas has been previously discovered. These high-risk wells target unproven geological structures or stratigraphic traps identified through seismic surveys and other geophysical methods. A wildcat well is classified as a discovery if it finds hydrocarbons in commercial quantities; otherwise, it is plugged and abandoned as a dry hole.
