Coating flaw

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000728

A defect or discontinuity in a protective coating applied to a metal surface, such as a pipeline or vessel, to prevent corrosion. Flaws include holidays (small voids), cracks, blisters, or areas of poor adhesion that expose the underlying substrate to the corrosive environment. Pipeline integrity management programs use inspection techniques like direct current voltage gradient (DCVG) surveys to locate and assess these flaws for repair.
