Pitting
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002812
A localized form of corrosion that creates small, deep holes or cavities on a metal surface, rather than uniform material loss. It occurs when a protective film on the metal breaks down in specific areas, exposing the underlying material to corrosive agents. Pitting can lead to premature equipment failure, especially in pipelines and vessels exposed to brines or acidic fluids.
