Corrosion rate

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000871

The speed at which a material deteriorates due to chemical or electrochemical reactions with its environment, often measured in terms of weight loss per unit area per unit time or penetration depth per unit time. In enhanced oil recovery, it quantifies the degradation of pipelines, wellbores, and processing equipment exposed to corrosive fluids like acids, brines, or dissolved gases. Common units include mils per year (mpy) or millimeters per year (mm/yr).
