Bimetallic corrosion
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000342
An electrochemical process occurring when two dissimilar metals are in electrical contact within a corrosive electrolyte, such as produced water in oil and gas operations. One metal acts as an anode and corrodes preferentially, while the other acts as a cathode. This type of corrosion is a concern in wellbores and pipelines where different metal alloys are joined.
