Sacrificial anode

A metal component, such as zinc or magnesium, that corrodes preferentially to protect other metals in a drilling fluid system. It works by providing a more electrochemically active material to be oxidized, thereby preventing corrosion of steel pipes and equipment. This method is a form of cathodic protection.
