Cathodic protection
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000590
A method of corrosion control that makes a metal structure the cathode of an electrochemical cell, thereby preventing its dissolution. This is achieved by connecting the protected metal to a more easily corroded sacrificial anode or by using an impressed current system. It is widely applied to pipelines, storage tanks, and offshore platforms to extend their operational life.
