Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000729
The Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), a measure of the amount of oxygen required to chemically oxidize all organic and inorganic compounds in a sample of drilling fluid or produced water. It is used to assess the overall pollution potential of discharged fluids and to monitor the efficiency of water treatment processes. COD values are expressed in milligrams per liter (mg/L) and are determined by a standardized laboratory test using a strong oxidizing agent.
