Oxygen scavenger
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002668
A chemical additive introduced into drilling fluids to remove dissolved oxygen, which can cause corrosion of drilling equipment and tubulars. This additive prevents the oxidation of other fluid components and maintains the integrity of the wellbore. Common oxygen scavengers include ammonium bisulfite and sodium sulfite, which react with oxygen to form inert compounds.
