Biochemical oxygen demand
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000347
A measure of the amount of dissolved oxygen consumed by aerobic microorganisms when decomposing organic matter in a water sample. It indicates the level of organic pollution in water, as higher values suggest more organic material requiring decomposition. BOD is typically measured over a five-day period (BOD5) and is a key parameter in environmental regulations for wastewater discharge.
